Hatice Rana Tarhangil Karadayi
Kutahya (Turquía), 1961
After graduating in Architecture in Istanbul, Rana Tarhangil travels to Spain and takes up residence in Barcelona. She worked as an architect for 17 years in various countries, but felt that she had lost her creativity. She began painting, sculpting and creating handicrafts. In addition, during the pandemic, she takes a course in industrial waste management and begins to carry out waste collections, recycling workshops and exhibitions of art created from recycled materials. Rana feels “indebted” to nature and wants to contribute to raising people’s awareness of not only recycling plastics, but of the urgent need to stop using them. Her aim is to create an emotional reaction in the viewer linked to the contradiction between the initial attraction of the beauty of the artwork and the awareness-raising message it conveys, making people reflect on environmental, social and economic sustainability.
