Joaquim Riera aka Recuperart (Barcelona, 1953)
This 69-year-old artist resides and has his workshop in Barcelona. After a professional life dedicated to graphic design, in 2012 he discovered the recycling of materials to create works of art. He began to manipulate and transform cardboard, eggplants, plastics, cans, tetrabrick containers, printed circuits, woods and irons, to create works of art and extend their lives, making them a more sustainable world.
The main basis of his sculptures is the coupling of irons and woods, which have become obsolete over time; woods rescued from nature itself are the source of inspiration for all his works. The aim of his works is to extend the life of everything that has ceased to be useful. The whole of his work is called Recuperart.
He has held exhibitions in civic centers in Barcelona, Delger room in Caldes de Montbui, Espai Ronda Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia, Bordeaux Périgueux, exhibitions with the Spanish film association, from 2017 to 2022. It receives the First Prize of the Under the Look contest by Josep Dt. Subirach at the Espai NauArt, collective exhibition Ments Inquietes at the Galeria Ra del Rei (Madrid), Fira Artist360 Madrid, among others.
“I consider myself a versatile artist and the reason that has led me to make works of art with recycled materials is my concern for the environment and overexploitation, we manufacture more than we are capable of consuming and everything that is thrown can be transformed into art.”
