Albert Merino holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona and the Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee, where he specialised in video art. There he also completed his postgraduate studies as a “Meisterschüler” under the tutelage of the artist and professor Inge Mahn.
He has participated in numerous festivals, international solo and group shows, residencies and has received several video art awards. Through a hybrid language, Merino creates a wide-ranging imaginary with which he intervenes and transforms everyday life, often approaching the absurd and ironic. He uses different graphic resources to question the architecture of images and the capacity to modify them with contemporary manipulation techniques.
Interested in decomposing visual language, he has experimented with different forms of narration ranging from non-narrative language to comedy or mockumentary, and deals with the condition of the individual in contemporary society, the imaginaries of collapse or the political use of images and symbols.
