Liu Guangyun

Guangyun lives and works between Shanghai and Mainz, Germany. He graduated in Arts from the Central Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Beijing in 1987, and has exhibited in many museums and institutions, including the Reina Sofía National Art Center Museum, the Tokyo Palace in Paris and the Shanghai Minsheng Museum of Art. In this series, he captures the beautiful but artificial images of female faces, highlighting the themes of cosmetic, surgical and digital manipulation. He criticizes contemporary aesthetic norms and consumer society, particularly the pressure on women to comply with imposed beauty standards.
